FLSTSSN Archived Sea Turtle Stranding Data

Here we provide data on dead, sick, or injured sea turtles documented in Florida since 1980. Two formats are available.

Below are tables reporting on dead, sick, or injured sea turtles documented in Florida during 1980–2005. The data are organized by year and then either by county and species or by county, species, and month. The data source is the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network Data Base.

Common name equivalents of the scientific names given in the tables are as follows:

  • Caretta caretta = loggerhead
  • Chelonia mydas = green turtle
  • Lepidochelys kempii = Kemp's ridley
  • Eretmochelys imbricata = hawksbill
  • Dermochelys coriacea = leatherback
  • Lepidochelys olivacea = olive ridley
