Geospatial Assessment of Marine Ecosystems
Spatial frameworks (the mechanics of studying a specific area) based on ecological characteristics, called ecoregions, are very powerful tools in environmental protection. Environmental resource managers have recognized the need for management approaches that are based on an ecosystem perspective. The Geospatial Assessment of Marine Ecosystems (GAME) is a project that aims to define and describe marine ecosystems to assist management of coastal and marine waters.

Categories
Florida’s economy and quality of life depend on the quality of coastal and marine ecosystems, which are under increasing pressure due to land development, pollution, recreational use, and commercial activities. The Geospatial Assessment of Marine Ecosystems (GAME) is a project that aims to define and describe Florida’s marine ecosystems to assist management of coastal and marine waters.

The goals of this project are to identify, inventory, and catalog existing data sets and information related to coastal and marine habitats of the Gulf of Mexico, both in U.S. and Mexican waters. This is in support of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance Governors’ Action Plan.
