Through the use of GIS technology, the Center for Spatial Analysis provides habitat layers for use in analyses that are intended to assist marine, freshwater, and terrestrial related research, management and conservation efforts, law enforcement issues, and a host of other management and conservation objectives.

The Center for Spatial Analysis employs specialists from marine, freshwater, and terrestrial arenas to develop spatially explicit models identifying Florida’s priority lands and waters for conservation of biodiversity. A variety of tools and methods are employed that result in a diverse line of products and services.

Scientists in the Center for Spatial Analysis address natural resource allocation and strive to help decision-makers better understand resource-allocation needs.

Through the use of GIS technology, the Center for Spatial Analysis assists the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Department of Environmental Protection in the event of an oil spill. These analyses assist decision-makers in developing response and clean-up strategies, in prioritizing response efforts, and in assessing damage after a spill.

The Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) develops a variety of cartographic products in response to the needs of the community. The Boating and Anglings Guides are one such example. The FWRI provides technical support in the form of data and cartographic layout and works with a variety of local, state and federal partners.
