Small Mammal Monitoring Internship

Interns will assist researchers with estimating population size through mark/recapture techniques, monitoring populations of beach mice with tracking tubes, and collecting tracks of small mammals. Data will be collected along the gulf coast area from Apalachicola to Pensacola. Duration of the internship is flexible.

Because the animals are nocturnal, a majority of the work will be conducted during evening, night, and possibly weekend hours.

A final project (paper, poster, or Microsoft PowerPoint presentation) will be required. Check with your department advisor to determine if college credit is possible.

Qualifications:

• Current college students and recent graduates are eligible.
• Prior field research experience desired, but not required.
• Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
• Literacy in Microsoft Office programs.
• Previous experience handling animals is desired but not necessary.
• Ability to operate and trailer all-terrain vehicles.
• Must possess a valid U.S. Class D driver's license.
• Job requires interns to be outdoors in all weather conditions.
